The water levels are rising in the Buffalo Pound Lake, but it's nothing to be concerned about, as it's for channel work to occur at the Qu'Appelle River.

Work and preparations began last week and the connection to the river was blocked to start the project.

"The main impact is the cabin owners and residents around Buffalo Pound Lake... are going to see it be higher than it normally would be this time of year," detailed Patrick Boyle with the Water Security Agency. "What we're doing is storing water in the lake ahead of the planned shut down of the upstream conveyance channel and that will allow us to do some of the in-channel construction work as far as maintenance goes."

The Water Security Agency added that evaporation and water use will be monitored as to remain in their operating range.

"We have to slow down the flows and effectively cut it off so that we can get in the channel and do some of that maintenance work."

Boyle noted that the work should only last through the work week and residents who have been affected will see water levels return to normal.
