Local students, parents and residents made their way to Crescent Park Wednesday for the annual National Aboriginal Day celebrations in Moose Jaw. The last time the event will be held under that name.

Creeson Agecoutay returned to host the event and discussed the decision by the federal government to change the name to National Indigenous Peoples Day.

"When we think about aboriginals, we sometimes thing about the people in Australia, the Aborigines." said Agecoutay. "A lot of Elders and Indigenous people in this land have said, some of them don't care for aboriginal, they'd prefer First Nation or Metis, something more specific."

Students and attendees took part in learning to jig, a round dance and were able to see a tee pee assembled as part of the events Wednesday.
