It was a big night for the National Hockey League in Las Vegas on Wednesday night.

After years of planning, the Vegas Golden Knights finally have players after the 2017 Expansion Draft was held on Wednesday.

Headlined by goaltender Marc-Andre Fleury and forward James Neal – who met in the 2017 Stanley Cup Final with Pittsburgh and Nashville, respectively – the Golden Knights made 30 selections in the expansion draft and also swung ten trades, which netted them seven more players and ten draft picks.

Vegas ended up selecting 14 forwards, 13 defencemen and three goalies during the expansion draft, including four players with at least ten years experience in the NHL, including former Ottawa defenceman Marc Methot.

Moose Jaw Warriors alum Deryk Engelland was selected by Vegas from the Calgary Flames.

More moves by the Golden Knights are expected in the next two days, leading into this weekend’s NHL Draft.
