Helping fill the big need for donors, the One Match stem cell and marrow network held a pair of information sessions at SIAST Thursday to fill people in on what being a donor is about.

There are currently over 700 Canadian patients waiting for an unrelated stem cell match.

Stewart Hambly talked about his experience as donor, "It was in the eighties, it was around an young girl, who I believe was from Nipawin, who need a bone marrow donation and they couldn't find a match, so they made an appeal to people in the province.  Of course I wasn't a match then but in 2001 I was identified as a match for a recipient, they found a better match.  Then a year later they found a second match and that one I did give to."
