Two third-period goals lifted the Moose Jaw Warriors to a tight 3-2 win over the Regina Pats Saturday at the Brandt Centre.

Goalie Adam Evanoff turned away 31 shots, while Tristin Langan and Ryan Peckford each scored in the third and finished with two points each.

With both teams coming off of losses, you could see the hunger in their eyes in the first period, as they charged up the ice looking for offence. Moose Jaw did a nice job creating offence inside the Regina home plate but was unable to punch the puck past Pats goalie Max Paddock. On the other side of the red-line, the Pats put 16 shots on net in the opening period and used three power plays to test Evanoff.

On Regina’s third power play of the period, the Pats drove the puck to the Moose Jaw net and the rebound came to Austin Pratt in the left corner, the 19-year-old wristed the puck off the back of Evanoff and into the back of the net to give Regina a 1-0 lead.

Special teams had an impact in the second period for both teams.

At 10:22 and working on the penalty kill, the Warriors created a turnover at their blue-line, which allowed Nick Bowman to lead a rush up the ice.  Bowman came in on the right wing side and then set up Tate Popple driving through the middle, the goal was Popple’s second of the season and the assist was Bowman’s first as a Warrior.

With under four minutes left in the second period, the Pats were on their fifth power play and set up Jake Leschyshyn inside the left circle for a hard shot that gave Regina a 2-1 lead going into the second intermission.

Moose Jaw landed on the power play early in the third period and they finally were able to capitalize. The Warriors moved the puck around the Regina zone looking for their chances, Justin Almeida dished the puck from the left circle down to the top of the crease for Langan, who quickly set up Peckford on the right side of the Pats' crease where his second goal of the season tied the game at two.

As the battles continued in the third period, the Warriors took their first lead of the game at 12:39, when Peckford created a turnover inside the right circle and connected with Langan driving to the net where he went top shelf for his eighth of the year.

Regina looked to fight their way back into the game and their best chance came when they picked up a power play with under three minutes left.

The Warriors dug in and leaned on their goalie on the penalty kill and fought off the Pats’ late charge to leave Regina with a 3-2 win.

Moose Jaw finished 1-for-6 on the power play while Regina was 2-for-7 on the man advantage.

The Warriors are now off until next weekend when they’ll play three games in four days. On Wednesday, they’re at home against the East Division-leading Prince Albert Raiders; on Friday, the Everett Silvertips make their only stop to Moose Jaw; then next Saturday, they’ll travel to Medicine Hat for the first time this season.
