16 senior girls basketball teams are battling it out this weekend at the Moose Jaw Senior Girls Invitational Basketball Tournament.

The 32 game tournament kicked off Thursday night with a game that saw Peacock Collegiate easily handling their Humboldt counterparts. "We played good on both ends of the court," said Peacock senior Piper Ingalls (pictured below). "We had a really good game."

The Central Cyclones played their first game of the tournament a little bit later on, and did so while wearing pink uniforms for their annual "Pink Game" in support of breast cancer research.

Moose Jaw will also be represented by Vanier Collegiate, who play their first game on Friday afternoon at 3pm against the very strong Carlton Comp Crusaders. "Carlton from Prince Albert is a stronger 5A school and they're one of the favorites," said tournament organizer Renee Verge.

When asked who else she thinks might give our Moose Jaw team's the biggest challenge, Verge said she thinks the team from Melfort will be very strong. "They're the defending 4A Provincial Champions. So yeah, it's going to be an interesting tournament. Lot's of teams have potential to get to the final."

And if its up to Peacock's Piper Ingalls, it will be her team leaving that final with the championship trophy. "It's my Grade 12 year and I want to win our home tournament. It's a big deal," said a focused Ingalls.

The tournament final is set for Saturday at 7:30pm on Peacock's North Court.
