SWIFT CURRENT -- There was plenty of momentum swings throughout the game, but the final one went in the Moose Jaw Warriors' favour on Tuesday night.

Captain Brett Howden was the Game 3 hero as he scored 2:49 into overtime to lift the Warriors to a 4-3 win over the Swift Current Broncos in Game 3 of their Eastern Conference semifinal series.

"It's a big win," said Warriors forward Brayden Burke, who had two goals and four points in the victory

Howden added the other two goals in the win, while defenceman Kale Clague and forward Tanner Jeannot chipped in with two helpers each. Goalie Brody Willms stopped 20 shots to backstop the Warriors to the win.

After dropping Game 2 on home ice, the win at the Innovation Credit Union Iplex gives the Warriors a 2-1 lead heading into Game 4 coming up on Wednesday night.

"We knew that we had to control them right off the start because they were going to be coming hard because the building is loud, but I thought we did a good job of taking on the pressure and we started to settle into our game," said Burke. "The power play got them a couple of goals, but I thought that we outplayed them."

After mustering just 20 shots in their Game 2 loss, the Warriors peppered Broncos goalie Stuart Skinner with 30 shots in Tuesday's win. The Warriors also put a lot of traffic in front of Skinner throughout the game, which helped them put some good pressure on the Broncos’ netminder.

"We're looking for rebounds and that’s where you score in the playoffs, in front of the net," said Warriors head coach Tim Hunter. "We didn't do that last year in here against this team and we made conscious effort this year to play more inside.

"I thought we played well tonight, we did not play well very well at home in Game 2, I watched the game again and it just seemed like we were off and it could have been around the circumstances of the weekend, but we were just off and I knew we'd be better tonight."

The Warriors came out of the gates strong and were able to generate some solid chances towards the Broncos net early in the game.

Swift Current would get the first reward however when Broncos captain Glenn Gawdin finished on a loose puck in front of the net to open the scoring midway through the first.

The Warriors answered less than three minutes later when Burke took a pass from Jeannot on a 2-on-1 and fired it past Skinner to tie the game.

The second period played out much like the first with both teams trading chances early and it was the Warriors that jumped out in front when Howden riffled a shot past Skinner on the power play with 5:24 gone in the period.

The Broncos would strike back however and two Warriors turnovers led to goals for Swift Current. Matteo Gennaro finished off a give-and-go to tie the game at 2-2 and then Artyom Minulin tipped in his first of the playoffs to give the Broncos a one-goal lead heading into the third.

Needing to strike early, the Warriors were able to do just that with Burke picking up his second of the night, and ninth of the playoffs, on a tip off a point shot from Clague to tie the game at 3-3.

Both teams had power play chances late in regulation, including the Warriors with just over two minutes to play, but neither side was able to convert, sending the game into overtime.

In the extra frame, a broken play coming over the Broncos’ line led to the puck finding Howden’s stick in tight on Skinner and he made no mistake to give the Warriors their third overtime win of the playoffs.

"It's exciting to come away with that win on the road and it gives us a good chance going into tomorrow to take both," said Clague, who now has one goal and 11 points in nine playoff games.

"We came in here with a greasy mindset to get a win and with the crowd, it was a great atmosphere in here for them, but I thought we handled it well and just kept playing."

The Broncos were 2-for-3 on the power play, while the Warriors went 1-for-4.

These two sides will meet up again on Wednesday night for Game 4 with the Warriors looking to take a stranglehold on the second round series.
