The Moose Jaw Canucks scored early, but the bats cooled and couldn't keep up with the Weyburn Beavers in a 9-2 loss on Sunday afternoon.

The loss drops the Canucks back down to .500 on the year at 3-3 in the Saskatchewan Premier Baseball League's midget AA division.

Moose Jaw opened the scoring in the first inning as Jeremy Kohl doubled and then was drove in by Riley Skarbon. Riley Gross would also score on an error two batters later to make it 2-0 after the top of the first.

Weyburn would answer with one in the bottom half of the first, then they tied the game up at 2-2 in the second. The Beavers added two more in the third, one in the fifth and four in the sixth to seal the win.

Gross was the only Canuck to put together a multi-hit game, finishing 2-for-3 with one run scored in the loss. Moose Jaw had seven hits in total on the day.

Skarbon started for the Canucks, allowing four runs -- three earned -- on six hits and two walks over three innings. He struck out four.

Tysen Jordison came on in relief, throwing three innings, allowing five runs, four of them earned, on four hits and one walk. He had six strike outs.

The Canucks return to the field on Wednesday when they host the Regina White Sox at Ross Wells Park for a 7 p.m. start.
