The congregation at Zion United Church has been raising funds throughout the summer, hoping to replace the building’s boiler.

The price tag is expected to be around $100,000 to replace it, but spokesperson Jack Ross, says they're getting close to reaching it.

"If you want to see exactly where we are, we have a thermometre in front of the church which will show you that we're close to the $90,000 mark. We're very excited and were always optimistic from the get-go. Certainly, the citizens and members of Zion United Church have come through."

Zion is a landmark in downtown Moose Jaw. Opening in 1912, the building has housed numerous Christmas Carol Festivals, Kinsmen Band Festival, Moose Jaw Music Festivals, weddings, funerals, and church services.

The Casavant pipe organ at the church was the first fully installed pipe organ in Western Canada and continues to be maintained by the congregation, over 100 years later. The church also includes a unique dome with a stained-glass center.

"We have received tremendous support from church members and the community at large toward reaching our goal," says Ross, "It's been a process and a half, this is an old steam boiler and we're in the process of changing it over right now, and they're working on the asbestos removal right now as I understand."

Ross goes on to say that they're hoping to host one last large fundraiser closer to Thanksgiving.

If you were wanting to donate, a GoFundMe page has been set up to help raise funds. You can find the page by clicking here.
