After a mild fall and start to the winter in Saskatchewan, winter weights went into effect for all regions on Friday, January 5 at 12:01 am.

Winter weights typically start on November 16th each year, and continue until mid-March, as conditions allow. Generally, winter weights allow up to 15-20 percent more weight for the secondary highways than what can be moved during the summer months.

Municipal roads are the responsibility of rural municipalities, and they set their own weight limits.

With Saskatchewan’s export-based economy, efficient movement of goods is essential; this period allows for truck drivers to maximize their trips when shipping goods to market.
