The Moose Jaw Warriors were named honorary Snowbirds Saturday, and the connection between the two teams is strong.

The Warriors held their Snowbirds night with special jerseys, and the similarities remain between the teams, according to Warriors general manager Alan Millar.

“When we sit in their board room and watch them get prepared and then following their flight, watching them debrief, there’s a lot of similarities on how we get prepared for a game,” said Millar.

The Warriors have had the privilege of a good relationship with 15 Wing and the Snowbirds, Millar said.

“Trust and teamwork are so important in the air and on the ice, and certainly there’s different levels of risk and reward.”

Some members of the Warriors have been able to go up in the jets over the years. There’s a lot of synergy between how they prepare for a game, as well as how the air demonstration team prepares for their practices and shows.

“They’ve joined us on our game days, and game day skates with our players,” Millar said. “And in our dressing room as we’re getting prepared for our game. The Snowbird jerseys and charitable initiatives. We’ve learned a lot from them, and it’s really an honour to be associated with them. It was a real special night the other night. The whole night came together very well.”

Wearing special Snowbird themed jerseys, the Warriors beat the number one team in the WHL, the Prince Albert Raiders 4-2.

“For them to honour us in the society of honorary Snowbirds is really special for our club,” Millar said.

He said they have a lot of admiration for the way the Snowbirds challenge each other and make each other better.

“Lots of great things to share, and I think the leadership out at the base, the people that we’ve worked with, the pilots have just been great people and it’s really been a fantastic association,” Millar said.
