The Wakamow Rotary Club’s tree lot, located in the parking lot of the Moose Jaw Co-op, has sold out in record time.

The lot opened up on Nov. 26 and, by Dec. 6, over 460 trees had been sold.

The stand originally was set up for 400 trees, but they had to bring in more trees to keep up with demand.

Although final totals were not known yet, spokesperson Whitt Wyatt said it was a successful fundraiser as there are few expenses and the lot is run by volunteers.

“As a fundraiser, we hope to make about $10000 on this and distribute that amongst the community.”

The tree lot of the service club’s biggest fundraiser each year.

The money raised will go into the Rotary Club’s general service funds and will be distributed to other organizations in need or it will go back into the community such as funding the Rotary Club scholarship.

Wyatt said it was a different year for the club as they tried to hold fundraisers through the COVID-19 pandemic.

“The tree sales were really good for us in that it's an outdoor activity and we could do all the transactions from an outdoor perspective and being masked up that's really, really helped.  It wasn't an event that was dependent on the large crowds gathering together indoors.”

Wyatt added this is the last fundraiser planned for the club until next summer.
