Lorna Cottenden and Jared McRorie were ‘called to the bar’ Thursday during a bar admission ceremony at the Court of Queen’s Bench in downtown Moose Jaw.

Presiding over the ceremony was The Honourable Mr. Justice D.C. Chow. Greetings from the Court of Appeal were delivered by The Honourable Chief Justice R.G. Richards, while greetings from the Provincial Court of Saskatchewan were delivered by The Honourable Judge Brian A. Hendrickson.

Cottenden was presented by Suzanne Jeanson, while McRorie was presented by David M. Chow. Family and friends, and several members of the legal community looked on as the two new Law Society of Saskatchewan members took their oaths.

McRorie, who was born in Regina and raised in Saskatoon, will continue working with Chow McLeod, while Cottenden will be setting up her own practice here in the city. "I love the prairies," said Cottenden, who's originally from Nova Scotia. "{At one time] I lived with my aunt and uncle in Alberta. I love the prairies. I don't know if it's the small towns...I've been told by many people who've been born and raised in Saskatchewan that they feel an affinity with the Maritimes. We'll be here...we'll retire here."

McRorie said he's most looking forward to, "...do[ing] what [he] could to help people achieve the greatest amount of rights that they're afforded, which is substantial in Canada. I want to make sure people are properly represented, and that they have a voice, and that they're not walked on or trampled underneath the feet of the state or anyone else with an imbalance of power."

Cottenden said she's looking forward to, "...the ability to speak for people who otherwise would not be able to speak for themselves."
