She's having one last party on Saturday night and on Sunday, Glady Pierce will turn the keys over to the new owners.  Hopkin's Dining Parlour will change hands and remain open but the lady at the controls is retiring after 40 years.

I dropped in to wish her well earlier this week.  We had a nice visit.

I shared some memories with her including a dinner I had with my father and his older sister, my aunt Betty.

She was right outta the movies.  A highly intelligent, lifelong librarian.  She was prim and proper with capital Ps.

Aunt Betty didn't drink much but on this particular night, she cut loose a little.  She smacked back three or four rye and gingers before and during her meal.  Her face was flush with inebriation.  She was thoroughly enjoying herself and her surroundings.

Aunt Betty would eat chicken that evening.  When she finished, our server brought her the customary warm, wet napkin to clean her hands.

She proceeded to pick up her knife and fork and attempt to cut that napkin.

My dad said, "Betty, what are you doing?"

Aunt Betty said, "Well, George, I'm trying to cut into this crepe but it's very difficult."

I got a laugh outta Glady!
