800CHAB’s one and only Rob Carnie has been recognized by the Moose Jaw Health Foundation (MJHF) with the Healthcare Philanthropy Award.

The award was presented to Carnie at the MJHF Award Ceremony at the Heritage Inn on Wednesday.

This was the foundation's returning ceremony after being put on hold for the past two years.

The event was sponsored by Lifeline Canada. It recognized the generosity of the public’s donations totaling at over $39 million as well as the hard work of the employees with the MJHF and the SHA.

The Healthcare Philanthropy Award acknowledges Carnie and his hard work with the annual 36-hour Family First Radiothon.

The radiothon has been a major event in the community for over a decade.

“We got it (the radiothon) going 16 years ago and then next one will be our 16th annual... some organizations work year-round to raise money so they can present a big check, others just drop by and drop five, and ten, and twenty-dollar bills into our bin and those are heartfelt donations that add up to big money so that our medical health professionals here in Moose Jaw at the Wigmore Regional Hospital can have better equipment to serve us,” says Carnie.

In total the radiothon has raised over $4.6 million for the MJHF.

“Sometimes it’s a lot of fun, sometimes it’s emotional but it’s always rewarding,” says Carnie.

He continued to say that he was honored to work with the MJHF under the leadership of Kelly McElree as well as volunteers and employees of the radio station.

“I’m very humbled to get this award and a heartfelt thank you to everyone here and in the community,” says Carnie.
