I agree with the 79% of small businesses opposing the proposed new taxation powers for municipalities.

Regina Mayor Michael Fougere is talking about this idea with the provincial government.

The CFIB, Canadian Federation of Independent Business surveyed small business owners and almost 4 out of 5 are opposed.

CFIB Vice President Marilyn Braun-Pollon says giving municipalities "new taxation powers would put them on a collision course with their local small business community that are already struggling..."

Braun-Pollon also says, instead of looking for new sources of revenue, municipal governments should look reducing the size and costs of the civil service and develop a "strategy to narrow the compensation disparity between public and private sector employees."

Oh, and I liked this.  Braun-Pollon says, "It is important...to remember that while we have three levels of government, there is only one level of taxpayer."
