Blended families are becoming more and more common these days, and Hillcrest Apostolic Church in Moose Jaw is hosting an event geared to help support those families this coming Saturday.

It's called Blended and Blessed, and it's a live-stream event being broadcast all over North America featuring teaching from experts and couples offering tools to make blended families grow closer.

Tami Elliot is the event organizer, and has a vested interest in helping people in blended families because 3 and a half years ago, she became part of one when she married her husband, Ken.

"The two of us met, and we thought that this is going to be amazing. It was the right thing. Marriage is hard enough on its own, but you add instant family, and kids who are like 'Yeah, I didn't ask for this' and it's just very challenging."

Tami had 4 childern from a previous marriage and Ken had 1. Tami says it was difficult at first, but she listened to something one of the Blended and Blessed speakers, Ron Deal, said that helped her a lot.

"People hear 'Blended Family' and they think you're just going to throw everybody in a blender and it's going to turn out to be this wonderful mixture. But he said blended families are more like crock pots. You have your separate ingredients that all get thrown in. And it takes low heat. And time."

Elliot would encourage everyone to come out to the event, whether they are currently in a blended family or not. She says you can never have too many tools in your belt.

Blended and Blessed is put on by Family Life, and the simulcast will start at 8:45AM on Saturday, April 29th. It's $6 a person, $10 for a couple, and lunch is provided. You can see details on their website here.
