Vintage clothing has a way of transporting people back in time and St Joseph’s Women's League is looking to help transport the community with a Vintage Gown Display to celebrate its 100th Anniversary.

This first-ever event will take place Saturday, June 11th at St Joseph’s Church Hall in Moose Jaw.

“This is the first time we’ve done this and it's sort of taken on a life of its own. It’s taken a lot of organization to get it going... it was something that we wanted to do. (We) had talked about it probably for a couple of years and the time (now) was right mostly because of the Centennial. It’s just lined up with the Centennial so it’s part of our celebration,” says Janie Fries, member of the St Joseph Catholic Women’s League.

Over 60 items will be on display including vintage wedding gowns, baptismal gowns, and first communion dresses.

However, the event will be much more than just a museum of vintage gowns.

“The event has three components. One is a tea, where we’ll be serving teas and sandwiches. The second component is the displays where we have many items of wedding gowns, baptismal gowns, communion dresses... and the third component is a fashion show where we have live models modeling eight wedding gowns, one from each decade starting in 1932 and the last one is 2006,” says Fries.

The gowns that will be on display will range from 1896 to the 2000s.

One of the featured gowns will be the baptismal gown of Mae Wilson, the lady that the Mae Wilson Theatre is named after.

Tickets for the event are now available at St. Joseph’s Church and Church of our Lady. They’re being sold for $20.

There will be assigned seating at the event with tables from two to six people, so the Women’s League is asking people to purchase tickets in groups.

Cash or checks are accepted for payment but a debit transaction or etransfer will not be available.
