I can't tell you I've never had a speeding ticket.  I have.  I can't tell you I'll never get one again.  It could happen.  I can tell you I'm extra careful behind the wheel these days because I know police agencies across the province have stepped up enforcement.

SGI's Traffic Safety Spotlight last month was shining on distracted driving but, the news release reads, "...when the results came back, the most distracting thing about them were the 8,734 speeding/aggressive driving offences and the 657 offences for seatbelt or child seat violations."

SGI says those numbers are the highest in those categories since the Traffic Safety Spotlights started in 2014.

The fines for speeding are significant these days.  If you're caught going 60 km/h in a school zone, it's a $390 hit.  If you get nabbed going 80 km/h in a 60 km/h Orange Zone, it's a $440 fine.

So, the question is, why would ya do that?
