Local figure skaters found their way onto the podium to end September at the Sask Skate competition in Weyburn.

The Moose Jaw Skating Club sent ten skaters to the competition and eight of them put together personal best scores in a strong start to the fall season.

"Everyone did really well, a lot of personal bests, it's a really good competition to get your program out there and get some marks for it with the report card and the judges evaluate it, so you really get to see what you want to work on and fix for sectionals, and it gives them an idea of where they stand in the province," said MJSC coach Jana Beesley-Capili.

17-year-old Ryann Handley put together a strong performance in the Novice Women division, picking up a silver medal after posting a personal best score of 63.75 in her free program, which moved her up from sixth after the short.

She said she's coming away pleased with how she finished the competition, "My short wasn't my best performance, but I was really happy with my long," said Handley.

"I've been getting more ice time and working with a provincial coach and I skated all summer in Regina, so that helped me post that personal best."

Handley has her sights set on making it to the Canada Winter Games this year and Beesley-Capili said she's well on her way.

"Ryann is doing really, really well, she's right at the top where she wants to be and we just want to make sure that she can continue skating hard, skating her jumps and landing them and she'll hopefully still be at the top at sectionals (in November)," said Beesley-Capili.

Alyssa Roney came in 16th place in the Novice Women division.

Moose Jaw's Raine Eberl was the lone skater in the Senior Men division finishing with a score of 165.03. He also competed with Caidence Derenisky from Regina in the Novice Pair division, finishing in first place.

In the Pre-Novice Women division, Justine Aitken finished in 16th place overall in the first flight. Her score of 18.52 in the short program was a personal best.

Tyrae Wiebe skated to personal best scores in both her short (21.21) and free (37.97) programs to finish in ninth place in the second flight of the Pre-Novice Women division.

Lindsay Allen finished in second place in the Juvenile Women (U14) division with a personal best score of 22.42. Camryn Ferguson from the Prairie Edge School of Skating was sixth in the division, while Lauren Halverson came in 11th.

Eric Swalm placed second in the Pre-Juvenile Men division, posting a personal-best score of 14.59. Rowan Gray from Prairie Edge came in fourth with a score of 13.00.

The Moose Jaw Skating Club had three skaters in the Pre-Juvenile Women (U11) division and all three skated personal-best scores. Mitike Cridland finished 12th with a score of 14.86, Rachel Ward was 15th with an 11.85, and Brecon Swalm was 16th with an 11.14.

Prairie Edge's Kalista Brown came in 10th in the Juvenile Women (U12) division with a score of 16.07.

Caronport Skating Club's Aden Fawcett won the Juvenile Men (U14) division with a score of 21.22.
