The Government of Saskatchewan celebrated Social Workers across the province this past week.

Since the 1990s, March 18th to the 24th has been "Social Work Week" in Saskatchewan, it gave people a chance to recognize people who work and thrive in the Social Work industry.

Moose Jaw's Kaley Chevrier is a registered Social Worker and said she's please that the provincial government dedicated this past week to her and the people who work in the same field.

She said while she loves her job, there are some obstacles.

"I think that the challenge is you're always exposed to other people's hurts and pains," Chevrier said. "So it's so important to do self care and just continue to educate yourself about the resources available and policies that are changing - that helps overcome different barriers that those you are working with are trying to work through."

Chevrier is one of the many dedicated to this line of work, and she even knew at a young age that she was meant to do this. She has never questioned her career choice, as the job has many different opportunities and situations involved in it.

"Social work is a very diverse profession, often we're seen as helpers where we help others to improve and develop skills for just overall well being to alleviate any pain. Whether that's for an individual, family or community," she said. "We promote, empower and advocate for individuals. There's opportunity to educate as well and navigate systems."

The theme of Social Work Week was also “Bringing Change to Life,” which is one of the reasons Chevrier believes makes her job the best.

"I think [it's] just [about] seeing the resilience of humans and being able to foster growth and hold a safe space and building trust and watching the success of individuals and families and communities."
