The City of Moose Jaw released another update on High Street Construction, but it looks like some significant work needs to take place on some previous damage. They have been moving through the blocks to complete trenching, compaction and patching work, but have pushed back their expected completion of some of this work.

Not only has the rain added a slight delay to the project, but sewer camera operations also confirmed that sewer connections to some businesses were found severed and needed repairs.

These repairs and damage have been there since the original contractor finished their job on the site.

"Part of Cast-Iron [Project] is the communication around getting service connections done," explained City Engineer Josh Mickleborough. "You know the contractor may not have been as diligent as he could have been with getting that done and we were just out there and wanted to be proactive about identifying potential issues, maybe potential damage."

Workers now have to reconnect those sewer connections and make sure any damage surrounding it is repaired.

"Its a bit of a delay that's it. We're still projecting mid-next week to have the 300 block done and you know about a week after that to have the 400 block done," Mickleborough said. "The good part is is that you know, there's enough work down there that we can keep going on filling the trenches and rebuilding the road on other blocks."

The 300 block was projected to be completed on the 11th and the 400 block on the 17th, but that was before the delay of the rain and sewer repairs.

As for the rest of the reconstruction, the trenching, compaction and asphalt patching work on the 600 block is anticipated to be finished by June 15 and the 700 block by June 22, then crews will move into the 500 block.

After this work is completed, crews will begin the sidewalk repair, then the 300 to 800 blocks will be paved.

Another reminder that High Street businesses remain open at this time. Alley access to businesses on the 300 and 400 blocks are available via 3rd and 4th Avenue and businesses on the 600 to 700 blocks can be accessed through the 6th, 7th and 8th Avenues.
