The local branch of the Sasktel Pioneers handed over a welcomed cheque to a number of literacy programs within the city this week.

A cheque for $3,400 went to three programs; the Moose Jaw Literacy Network's summer program, Holy Trinity Catholic School Division, and the Prairie South School Division.

The school divisions will be using the money to help fund online resources, along with other literacy programs.

Superintendent of Learning at Prairie South School Division, Lori Meyer, said teachers were invited to apply for funding to support the purchase of online reading programs, or to go toward the purchase of books for students over the summer months.

“It is important for students to continue their reading skills over the summer, students of both French Immersion and English of all grades will benefit from the generosity of the Moose Jaw Pioneers”.

The SaskTel Pioneers are made up of almost 4,000 members across the province and have donated $206,273 financial donations, $983,00 in-kind donations, and have put in over 42,000 hours of volunteer work to support community initiatives over the last year.
