SaskPower has recruiting 2,000 volunteers to have smart metres installed in their homes for free.

Spokesperson with SaskPower Joel Cherry detailed the benefits of a smart meter.

"You're going to be billed exactly the amount of power you use every month. So there will be no more estimated bills between actual metre reads when someone comes to your house to read it. If you're interested in power conservation and getting your bill lower, you can look at the amount of power you're using and when you're using it and you can look for cost savings that way. The third is that you simply won't have to have a metre reader enter your property anymore."

Of the 2,000, there will be 1,500 smart metre installed at residential homes and 500 on commericial properties.

The meters have been tested rigorously and are ensured to last through all the different types of Saskatchewan weather.
