Oct 16-22 is Saskatchewan Library Week!

Gwen Fisher is the head librarian at the Moose Jaw Public Library.

She says every week is a special week at the library.

"We have all kinds of stuff to do. We have programs to attend, we have physical activities like Lego or other interactive toys for kids. We have computers, we have WI-FI. Sometimes you can't stand to work in your own house because the dishes are looming. The library is another place for you to go that doesn't cost anything, where you can get things done. We're also a place for people to meet each other. We're here, we love to talk with the community but also you run into people at the library. You can attend programs together. This is another way for you to build relationships in your community through the library."

Fisher notes some of the special events held this week included a new evening knitting program for adults, teen writer circle, Dungeons and Dragons (virtual and in-person), and a variety of drop-in programs. The library also showcased its new materials aimed at those with dyslexia.

She adds something people might not know about is their extensive video game collection, which includes PS5, PS4 and Xbox One games among others.

"Video games actually are one of our quiet delights. We have a great video game collection that's very much loved by those who are aware of it. We invite everybody to come and check that out. We also have digital services available. We love to see you at the library but you can use the library from home. You can use audiobooks, you can use E-books. We have streaming, so you can view films at home or TV shows, music, all of that's available with your library card."

The Moose Jaw Public Library also has multilingual resources available including Ukrainian and other languages. People can also request resources in the language of their choosing.

Fisher notes the best way to support your library is to make sure that your library card is active.

"If you haven't come down to see us in a while, come and check out the library to see what we've got to offer and renew your library card."
