The Saskatchewan Roughriders added to their coaching staff on Tuesday as they hired Steve Walsh to be the team’s quarterback coach.

Walsh spent last season as a special assistant with the Toronto Argonauts, which was his first season in the Canadian Football League.

Prior to coming north, Walsh spent two years as the director of football at IMG Academy in Bradenton, Fla. Before that, he served as the head coach at Cardinal Newman High School in West Palm Beach for six seasons.

Walsh played pro football for 11 seasons with Dallas, New Orleans, Chicago, St. Louis, Tampa Bay and Indianapolis. He threw for 7,875 yards with 40 touchdowns and 50 interceptions.

Walsh also won a NCAAA national championship with the Miami Hurricanes. He was an All-American and Heisman Trophy candidate as a junior and went 23-1 during his college career.

The Riders were looking for a new quarterback coach after Jarious Jackson left Saskatchewan to become the new offensive coordinator with the B.C. Lions.
