The Canadian Red Cross honoured some real life heroes Monday as they presented four individuals with the Rescuer Award for volunteering to save a life during an emergency situation.

Grant Rathwell, Dan Beach and Rick Evans were three of the recipients.  They received their award for their attempts to save Bob Hamel's life on New Year's Eve.

"Bob just collapsed and fell down." explained Evans. "Dan was the first person there and we got Bob stretched out on the floor and we checked his mouth to make sure there were no obstructions there. We immediately started compressions on him and I fortunately had a tip from my brother in law on compressions and the need to do it right away."

Hamel unfortunately lost his life later that night in hospital but the quick efforts from Rathwell, Beach and Evans were honoured.

Brenda Hendrickson was also presented an award for saving the life of a customer at Moose Jaw City Hall. You can read about her story here.
