Proud citizens are wearing the poppy to honor our fallen soldiers, veterans and those who are still serving our country today.

Poppy trays can be found in just about every local business and organization. Christine Simpson, Poppy Chairman from Branch 59 of The Royal Canadian Legion says "The Citizens of Moose Jaw have always been great donators to our veterans and the poppy fund".

The poppies are free and the donation is at the individual's discretion. All money raised during this campaign is spent in the city and is delegated to veterans, their families and allied veterans.

Another thing the Legion uses the funds for is supporting charitable organizations as well as provide bursaries for students. Last year, $25 000 was donated to the Moose Jaw Health Foundation to assist with the purchase of the hyperbaric chamber. The Legion also gave to Riverside Mission to replace all their windows and doors.

"It's an honour being a poppy chairman and we are extremely grateful to the citizens of Moose Jaw because every year their donations just get more and more," Simpson gushed, "The money goes to help those in need and the legion is spreading out to the community, we've given to the Cosmo Centre and the Timothy Eaton Centre and many other organizations where there are veterans utilizing the facility or if the facility is in need of some assistance, that's what the poppy fund is all about."

Remembrance day is Friday, November 11th.
