After taking a break for a few years, it seems as though the Community Police Academy is back in full force.

Two years, the Moose Jaw Police Service brought back the program and it's been receiving a lot of interest ever since.

"It's an exciting program for us to be able to show some of the highlights that we have here at the Police Station," described Constable Kyle Cunningham. "The different specialty units, the different officers with their skill sets that they are to be able to display to people and some of the information that we're hoping to share with individuals that are going to take part in this program."

One of the most exciting aspects of the Community Police Academy is watching members of the Police Service describe their job and show you in person what they love to do each and every day.

"They really get to Officers as people. People that might not have had much of a chance to interact with our officers before have an opportunity to learn from a number of our different Officers. It's fun for our Officers too, they really enjoy the opportunity to interact with the public on a different level and it's very informal, and it's a lot fun for us to provide that to members of the public," said Cst.Cunningham.

Participants are able to explore almost every aspect of what it's like to be a local officer from equipment, the various departments, what vehicles they use and what building with multiple sectors that they operate out of.

To be apart of the program there are some very minor criteria that a person will need to complete before being accepted, which will roughly twelve to fifteen available spots.

"People not to be 18-years of age or older, and they need to complete a criminal record check here at the Police Service, which we'll look after that portion, but they need to fill out some forms on their end to be accepted for the program."

The program begins October 9th and runs each Tuesday evening until November 13th. Residents can find applications on the Moose Jaw Police Service website, as well as at the local station down on Fairford Street.
