On Monday around 1:30 am, the Moose Jaw Fire Department were called to a fire on the 900 block of Ominica Street West. Firefighters were able to contain the blaze to the single building and keep it from spreading; however, the home

was a complete loss.

Cherie Reddekopp says her boyfriend and his son have been renting the house and have only been there for a year. She said she was in Regina in the time and wasn't even aware of the blaze;

"About 1:30am we started getting phone calls but my phone was shut off. Then at about 2:30 the cops knocked at the door and told us there was a fire on the street, but didn't specify it was our house".

Reddekopp says they have a drop off point set up for anyone wanting to donate at 1120 Lillooet Street West,

"As it was, he didn't have much. I had started to help getting him stuff the last 6 months for him and his son. They had just started, that was their first place together. We lost everything that we worked really hard to get."

"Salvation Army gave him a few dollars to go get some milk and diapers and wipes for the next few days to kind of get us by until we get stuff figured out. I think Moose Jaw is wonderful when they come together like this, we have such great support during tragic events. When it comes down to it, Moose Jaw comes together as a community and we help each other out".

No cause for the fire has been given.
