The Moose Jaw Peewee Mavericks started off February on a winning note on Monday night, as they skated to a 7-4 win over the Southwest Cyclones in Gull Lake.

The game was a big upset with the Mavericks sitting in last place and the Cyclones holding down the second spot in the South Saskatchewan Female Hockey League standings.

A four-goal first period set the tone for the Mavericks and allowed them to cruise to the win.

Sadie Hughes finished with a hat trick and four points in the win, while Jesse Mielke posted two goals and five points. Ashley Breitkreuz and Kiana Hrechka had the other markers for Moose Jaw, and Jasmine Kohl picked up a pair of helpers.

Schay Camphaug was in goal for the win, which pushed the Mavericks’ record to 4-12-5 on the year.

The Mavericks are back on the ice on Tuesday night when they host the Swift Current Ice Cats. Puck drops at 8 p.m. in Central Butte.

In house league action on Monday night, the Cobras skated to a 3-1 win over the Flyers in the Atom C Division at the Red Knight Arena.
