As the NDP government met for the annual policy convention in Saskatoon this past weekend, two Moose Jaw business that have closed were a topic of discussion.

The strong Saskatchewan economy and it's benefits were among the topics discussed at the Saskatchewan NDP annual policy convention on the weekend.

Businesses that have been hurt as a result of the strong Canadian dollar such as Raider Industries and Moose Jaw Pork Packers were also included in the conversation.

Premier Lorne Calvert says the Saskatchewan NDP is concerned about these issues. "We're well aware and very concerned. Deb Higgins and Glenn Hagel kept us very closely posted on issues around the Raider Industries and the pork plant. This is an issue we're facing not just in Moose Jaw but right around the province, at the same time we see an economy that is much, much stronger that it was 5 years ago. When these kinds of things happen its never easy but we have some strength to be able to deal with them in other aspects of the economy which are strong and growing."

With Raider and the pork plant closed, Moose Jaw has lost three per cent of its work force.
