The City of Moose Jaw has approved a letter of commitment for the WHL promising to meet facility standards by the 2009 season.

As if the results of the MultiPlex Referendum weren't enough, Moose Jaw City Council has approved a motion to send a letter of commitment to the Western Hockey League saying we will meet their facility standards by the 2009-2010 season.

Mayor Dale McBain introduced the motion last night that was approved 5-1. "I'm bringing forward this motion as a clear signal to the WHL that the City of Moose Jaw is committed to provide a facility that meets WHL standards. The community spoke overwhelmingly in the recent plebiscite, voicing their support for a new facility by 71 per cent and the same voters elected this council to begin the process of providing a new facility to the community."

The WHL has set January 31st as the deadline for having some type of plan in place. McBain believes this letter of commitment will meet that deadline.

What the actual project will be is expected to be decided during budget talks that are currently underway. But Councillor Dawn Luhning wants something to happen now. "I've wanted to make a decision on this issue before the January 31t deadline and we've been stalling, stalling, stalling along the way and we're no further ahead than we were two years ago. If we want to move forward the seven people around this table need to make a decision with what we are going to do and lets move forward fundraising people and lets start fundraising."
