Rotating job action by Canada Post could be coming to an end, but not of their own free will.

The federal government introduced back-to-work legislation Thursday morning as the labour dispute heats up before the holidays.

While he supports the move to end the strike, the Conservative Member of Parliament for Moose Jaw-Lake Centre-Lanigan, Tom Lukiwski, said it didn't have to be this way. "This is going to be a fight between the unions and Canada Post and, ultimately, the government. This is something I'll be watching with great interest. I think most Canadians would welcome renewed and timely postal services, particularly this time of the year."

Lukiwski supports the back-to-work legislation but said it wasn't necessary. "I'm a firm believer in negotiated settlements. This seems to be a bit heavy-handed and is a result of inaction by this current government."

Lukiwski argues that the Liberal government had plenty of time to reach a negotiated deal with Canada Post, but they allowed this to brew into the current dispute.

The union is threatening legal action if legislation is passed, saying that it's unconstitutional.
