The Moose Jaw Multicultural Council, in partnership with the Moose Jaw Rotary Club and Wakamow Rotary Club, is hosting its 7th international dinner.

‘Evening Around the World’ allows people to come and enjoy different foods and entertainment from all over the globe.

“It’ll be on Friday, March 10, at St. Andrews United Church,” explains the Executive Director at the Moose Jaw Multicultural Centre, Stefanie Palmer. “The event starts at 6, doors open at 5:30.”

The diverse menu consists of items from places such as Syria, Ghana, Congo, Afghanistan, and more.

“[Foods] like chicken shawarma, lentil sauce injera, which is a delicious bread, and then some desserts,” says Palmer. “There will also be a Sudanese coffee experience, which will be an extra cost because it’s more of an experience than just having coffee.”

This is the Moose Jaw Multicultural Centre’s largest fundraiser of 2023, which helps support newcomers.

“People are struggling. [Some] might need to go to a Specialist in Saskatoon, but don’t have the funds to get there, so we’re able to help cover that. It could also go to things like purchasing gifts at Christmas time for kids. We have also used the funds to help newcomers acquire some job skills-training that they may not have the funds for, [to help] towards their employment goals.”

Glen Hagel, a Member of the Moose Jaw Wakamow Rotary Club, explained how the fundraiser is, in many ways, an extension of the spring fundraiser to raise money for Ukrainian refugees.

“We were very, very pleased to team up with the Moose Jaw Multicultural Council to help support newcomers to Canada and to Moose Jaw. As we’ve been working together, I’ve been finding that although the Moose Jaw Multicultural Council has been around for quite some time, they’ve become a much larger and much more sophisticated and very important organization in our community, to help people build their new futures in our city and in their new country.”

The event will also feature a 50/50 auction, and possibly a live auction.

Tickets are available online at SaskTix, or in person at the Moose Jaw Events Centre box office.
