By the end, it wasn't a question of if, it was a question of when.

The Moose Jaw Little League All-Stars played well pitching, hitting, baserunning and fielding in their 11-1 win over North Regina last night to win the provincial championship.

The team lost to North Regina in the round robin part of the tournament, which helped Moose Jaw later in the tournament, according to All Stars head coach Tony Dreger.

“The good thing was probably the loss, to get us refocused and get us working hard again,” he said. “And it paid off because we mercied all the other games. I was super happy with the boys.”

Dreger said the team has been playing well all season.

“We hit the ball hard and we fielded well and did all the little things right and it was really a perfect game by the boys (Wednesday) night. I was super proud of them.”

Pitcher Max Simmons had a good day on the mound and at the plate, and he's excited for the chance to go to nationals in a couple of weeks in Ancaster, Ont.

“I’m happy we get to,” he said. “I might be nervous when we get there, but right now I’m just really happy.”

Simmons said he was just trying to throw strikes on the mound.

“Hitting, I was trying to get my bat on the ball and try to hit the gaps.”

The team will now rest up for a few days before hitting the practice field to prepare for nationals. If they win there, they get the chance to go to the Little League World Series.
