A late rally fell short as the Moose Jaw Miller Express lost their first game of the 2017 Western Major Baseball League (WMBL) season.

The Miller Express were in Swift Current to face the 57s and took a 1-0 lead in the 4th inning thanks to a Swift Current error.

The 57s would battle back with single runs in the bottom of the 4th, 5th and 7th innings to take a 3-1 lead.

The Miller Express pulled close in the top of the 9th as Ben Dalke hit a pinch-hit double to score a run.  Moose Jaw would get runners on first and second with nobody out but were unable to tie the game, which ended when Travis Able grounded out.

Bo Sheridan went 5 and two-thirds on the mound for Moose Jaw and took the loss by giving up two earned runs.

Bobby St. Pierre, who threw 6 innings for Swift Current, picked up the win.

The Miller Express return home Friday night for their home opener against the Weyburn Beavers. Moose Jaw plays again Saturday as Regina visits Ross Wells Park.

Both games start at 7:00 p.m.
