Every once in a while you should go and check up with your family physician. This is an issue many locals, who are finding it difficult to find a new family doctor. People have been told to look online, but the only patients that doctors seem to be accepting are male or pregnant females. Dr. Mark Brown, a doctor here in Moose Jaw, explains why it may be hard to find a family doctor.

"What we are looking at is the shortage of physicians still across the whole country, and if you look at the province of Saskatchewan we have the worst doctor patient ratio in the whole of Canada other than Newfoundland and Labrador, so the number of doctors per so many population in the province is bad."

According to Brown not a lot is being done to alleavite this issue in Saskatchewan.

"Because there is a chronic shortage of physicians and physicians cost money, we still haven't seen much movement on this physician resource plan in the province, so there is not a lot of work being done on the provincial level to try and address these shortages."

Moose Jaw is, however, taking some of the steps necessary to address this issue.

"In the past four years or so we have been trying to train our own family doctors. We have got a family medicine training program here in Moose Jaw, and as a result of that, every year we produce four new family physicians. Many of them do stay in the local area, and so there is a light at the end of the tunnel."

While fixing this issue might be a long process, work is being done. In the meantime keep searching for a physician and if you don't currently have a family doctor, you can still use one of the cities walk-in clinics.
