We told you earlier this week that MLA for Moose Jaw North Warren Michelson made the tough decision not to seek re-election in the upcoming provincial elections in 2020.

However, one local lawyer, school board trustee and Sask Party supporter has thrown his hat in the ring for the soon-to-be-vacant spot and test the waters of provincial politics.

Tim McLeod with Chow and McLeod in Moose Jaw said he's aware that planning for a group of people is difficult, but said his experience as a board member has opened his eyes as to how the whole process works.

"My work as a public school board trustee has really shown me that there are a lot of layers involved in making decisions that impact every area that the government oversees. Being a school board trustee was certainly one of those layers, and I have a better appreciation for what the other layers are and how each piece fits together to make the whole picture."

Until the decision comes down, McLeod said he will continue his work in various areas and will wait to see what the outcome will be.

"It will be business as usual through the nomination process and then depending on how the nomination process goes the successful candidate will have to wait until the election. For the time being I'll continue with my law practice and continue to chair the Prairie South School Board as well."

He noted that although he'll be representing half of the city of Moose Jaw if elected, he's eager to hear what the other MLAs and Saskatchewan Party have in mind for his skills and attributes.

"I've always taken the position that the priorities for the representative should be the priorities of the people, and I don't have any illusions that I would be going to Regina with my own agenda. I'm trained as an advocate for other people's interests. I would be interested in hearing what my constituents want me to be pursuing as their interests, and that's what I would go after."

McLeod noted that there's still quite a bit of time before the next AGM and planning session where it's decided when papers of interested candidates need to be filed, so we could still a number of other people vying for the position.
