Moose Jaw resident Johnny Beam is one step closer to building his dream motorcycle.

Beam has made it to the quarterfinals in Orange Country Choppers’ Dream Chopper Contest.

When the contest started, Beam was going up against over 7,000 people across Canada and the United States. Now, he is one of 1,100 contestants remaining in the contest.

Beam did not think he would get this far when it all started in the middle of March.

“I thought you know what, let’s try and see what happens. I know a lot of people in Moose Jaw. It’s just crazy how the votes have come in and I’m still in this. I didn’t think I would get this far because it’s a contest with over 7,000 people. It’s great.”

If Beam were to win the contest, he would have the opportunity to design his dream motorcycle alongside legendary motorcycle manufacturer, Paul Teutul Sr.

His dream bike would be one with a Mexican theme, brass, wild lowrider colors with a 70's paint job with modern technology. In addition, a bike that he could ride to Sturgis, South Dakota, and one he could just cruise around Moose Jaw.

The contest is in support of Hope for the Warriors, which provides resources and services to post-9/11 service members, veterans, and military families in the United States.

Being a military veteran himself, this cause hits close to home for him. As a result, Beam has teamed up with Wounded Warriors Canada.

“What we’re doing there is a poutine dog and a dollar from every one of those goes toward the Wounded Warrior campaign. It’s nice to give back to a Canadian Charity.”

In addition, on every food item that is bought at Hot Diggity or Taco Time, he has enclosed information on the cause and how to vote for him.

Contestants are encouraged to post videos and decorate their social media, as they will have better chances of winning.

This has caused Beam to get very creative and use social media to his advantage to stir up votes, while also promoting himself and the contest.

“It’s amazing and I feel so in awe of people that don’t even know me or know me from Taco Time are voting..voting..voting and sharing it. I have one lady who had friends in Germany, and Hungary. I have friends in Japan because I belong to a lot of classic groups and they’re all sharing it. It’s nice to get those extra votes.”

He’s even gone as far as posting a video of his morning routine, trying to be as creative as he can.

“It’s not an easy task with the two-foot beard I have on my face.”

Beam is one of three Moose Jaw residents to have entered this contest. Brandon Dowling took part in the event but didn’t make it to the semi-finals, and the other resident didn’t make it past the first heat.

Beam explains that he and Dowling went head-to-head a part of different groups, with Beam advancing.

“The gracious thing about Mr. Dowling, which I have nothing but good things to say about him, is that he started to vote for me and started sharing my stuff. I really appreciate those votes that he has given me as well.”

Beam is currently in 2nd place in his group. Voting ends on May 4 at 9:00 p.m. EDT.

He is encouraging Moose Jaw residents to vote for him on the Dream Chopper website.

Those that wish to share his content on social media are asked to use the hashtags #voteeatsupport and #inthistogether
