Get some exercise, tire out the dog and support the shelter.

The Moose Jaw Humane Society partnered with the ResQwalk app years ago, an initiative to raise money by simply going for a walk.

The company raises money for animal societies all across North America, and Moose Jaw is on the list of shelters you can support. With the app, if you go out for a walk or run, the more steps you take, the more money will be donated.

Dana Haukaas, Executive Director of the Humane Society, explained the basic structure.

"This is an app that has been around for quite a while, and it's been taken over recently by Best Friends Animal Society, and they are now donating the money and the more steps we take, the higher up the ladder we go and the more money (that) comes back to the Humane Society."

Haukaas encourages anyone who loves to walk their dogs, walk by themselves or go for runs to download the app, as it's the simplest way to be helpful that almost anyone can join in on.

"Every step you take gives money back to the humane society, and it doesn't have to come out of your own pocket," explained Haukaas.

To download ResQwalk, it is available on both the Apple and Android app stores.
