Summer may have come to an end but you still have a few chances to get the last of the locally grown veggies.

The Homegrown Market is holding its final outdoor market this Saturday from 8 am to 1 pm at Langdon Cresent and they encourage you to come on out and take advantage of this unique opportunity. Allison Talyor of Green Sister Gardens, who manages the market, says they welcome all kinds of folks and that it's always a case of the more the merrier.

"We always love to see new people come down, especially different age ranges as well. The more people that can come by the better for everyone. It really just helps to add to the atmosphere."

Taylor herself, along with the founder of Green Sister Gardens, Kerri Fox, sells her own produce at the market and says that she was still able to get a good harvest despite the unusual weather we had this summer.

"Every year is totally different and you kinda gotta take it as it comes," says Fox. "We are lucky enough to be able to plug into the city's water during times of drought. Overall it was a good year. There were some challenges at times but things still grew well."

Fox attributes part of her successful yield to the introduction of leaf-cutter bees into her greenhouse to help pollinate her plants.

"They're a bee that they use in alfalfa seed production. So I threw some into the greenhouse and put some nests in there and it was awesome. Really, our production was up considerably than years before."

The outdoor market runs This weekend before transitioning to an indoor venue during November and December.

"We're moving indoors again, we also did it last year, to the Timothy Eaton Centre," explains Taylor. "We're actually already at full capacity for all of our vendors in there, everyone booked it up right away. There will be a lot of bakers, soap makers, jewelry people and artists, pretty much most of the vendors that were already at the market this year."

The indoor markets are planned for November 3rd and 17th and December 8th and 15th.
