Hours of sawing wood, hammering nails, inserting insulation and a lot of painting all contribute to families being able to own their own home.

Saturday night saw residents of Moose Jaw coming out to support our chapter of Habitat for Humanity at their Second Annual Spring Gala. Not only did the Friendly City turn out to help a worthwhile cause, but they got a better chance to meet the two newest families who own homes in Moose Jaw.

Back in November, we got our first introductions to Tanya Legare and Kathy Brown, two single mothers raising their children in the Friendly City, and all those who attended got better acquainted to the two women and their kids and learned what Habitat has done for them.

"Habitat is not only bringing people together to build homes, but it's building dreams," Brown said. "Before this, I was too afraid to even dream of owning my own home. This is what Habitat is all about, it makes dreams, even the impossible ones come true."

Brown and her son Carter will be moving into 1160 1st Avenue North East and be neighbours to Legare and her two daughters, Brooklyn and Chelsea.

"Habitat for Humanity has helped my girls and myself to have a home to call our own," Legare said. "Where we can live, grow, and start our own conditions. I have met so many wonderful people since becoming involved with Habitat, and with this build, without the volunteer sponsors, my girls and I would not be where we are now."

Both homes are now nearing total completion. We even got an update on the homes one week ago.

Habitat for Humanity is a non-profit organization that "builds simple, decent and affordable houses and provide interest-free mortgages to families who would not otherwise be able to purchase their own home."
