Moose Jaw Families for Change (MJFFC) and its community partners have come together to bring a second year of the Kinsmen Inclusion Garden.

The Kinsmen Inclusion Garden is the first of its kind operating within Moose Jaw. The result of multiple years of planning and the collaborative efforts of MJFFC, Moose Jaw Holy Trinity Catholic School Division and the Moose Jaw Kinsmen Club. It celebrated its first year of operation in 2022.

“The Kinsmen Inclusion Garden is a multi-partnership garden that provides employment opportunities for people living with disabilities,” said Jineen MacFarlane, who participates in the garden program and is supported by MJFFC.

“It provides a barrier-free and accessible gardening experience with six custom raised garden beds, underground sprinkler system, a paved area, accessible shed and accessible tables.”

Located at 445 13th Ave NE, just east of the Holy Trinity Catholic School Division building, there is ample space for participants to utilize a space for gardening, but also an accessible outdoor space for everyone to enjoy.

“We hope everyone benefits from visiting the garden, it is a great space to even just have a picnic or a coffee,” said MacFarlane.

Members of the garden put the fruits of their labours to good use, and the organization has plans to expand the reach of the program in the future explained MacFarlane.

“The gardeners take home their produce, and the participants at the day program use it in their cooking program. In future years MJFFC hopes to have a yearly market.”

MacFarlane extends an invitation to all in the community who would like to participate.

“We would love to have you at the garden this year! If you are interested in more information or accessing the garden, you can call 306-693-2271 or email mariahmjffc@shaw.ca.”

She also encourages those who would like more information to follow the MJFFC and watch the organization’s Friday Live Inclusion with Jineen, which debuts in May.
