The Royal Canadian Legion Branch 59 Moose Jaw recognized Decoration Day on Sunday to remember those that made the ultimate sacrifice during wartime.

Small Canadian flags were placed at veterans' gravesites at cemeteries across the city, totalling about 1,100 flags.

Following the placement of the flags, a ceremony was held at the cenotaph at the Rosedale Cemetery.

Decoration Day was a tradition started over 132 years ago as a precursor to Remembrance Day. Although it has been overshadowed by Remembrance Day, it is still an occasion that the Royal Canadian Legion recognizes.
