Former mayor of Moose Jaw and former Conservative MP Ray Boughen passed away at the age of 85.

Boughen was an educator before entering politics as a long-time teacher and principal. He was elected to two terms as the city's mayor from 1994 to 2000.

Boughen would serve as a trustee on the Prairie South School Division board from 2000 to 2008 before entering federal politics.

During the 2008 federal election, Boughen was elected as the Member of Parliament for the now-abolished Palliser riding that included the City of Moose Jaw.

He served in parliament for two terms before retiring in 2015.
