While marketing and office manager Maddie Kelly is wrapping things up at this year’s Scotties Tournament of Hearts in Moose Jaw, her mom Kim decided to take in some of the action.

And Kim knows a thing or two about curling.

She is a five-time Scotties champion and two-time world champ with the Colleen Jones rink out of Nova Scotia. This is Kim’s second trip to the Notorious City.

“In the summer, in June, Maddies moved down here to live and we drove out together, five days together in a car,” she said.

Kim was watching Team Nova Scotia very closely as two of her former teammates, Jen Baxter and Mary-Anne Arsenault, were wearing the provincial colours.

“Mary-Anne and I played together five or six years with various different teams,” she said. “One of the players she has now, Jen Baxter, Colleen, Mary-Anne and I and Jen actually played in the 2013 Scotties together. That was the last time Colleen and I were here.”

And for those wondering, yes, Kim is still curling competitively. She competed with Colleen Jones is this year’s Nova Scotia provincial championships.

“Colleen and I still play together. We played this year with two young girls, one was 40ish and one was 28, so they brought down the average age and we actually lost the final to Mary-Anne.”

Kim has also made 17 Scotties appearances in her career and five world championship appearances.
