The top doubles badminton players from Prairie South elementary schools were decided on Wednesday at Peacock Collegiate.

Brooklyn Roney and Makena Simmons from Sunningdale claimed the girls doubles title, while Jayden and Brennan Watterson, also from Sunningdale, scored the boys doubles title during the championship tournament.

Roney and Simmons won their semifinal match over Cornerstone's Sarah Buhler and Malayna Grainlich before edging out their Sunningdale teammates, Brooke Hammond and Avery Hewitt, in the final in three sets (17-21, 21-13, 21-15).

Buhler and Grainlich would go on to capture the bronze medal with a win over Lindale's Taiya Carpentier and Taylor Rosenau.

In the boys doubles bracket, the Watterson team knocked off King George's Dommick Mall and Rafael Pondevida in two sets (21-16, 21-9), but they needed three sets (22-20, 22-24, 21-19) to top Sunningdale's Nathan Varjassy and Eron Mowchenko in the final.

William Grayson's Dustin Legare and Dylan Reed won bronze with a three-set win over Mall and Pondevida.

The high school badminton provincial championships go this weekend in Wilkie with three Moose Jaw athletes set to take part.
