Last week's decision from the Saskatchewan Labour Relations Board to deny employers the right to remove workers with supervisory duties from the union was music to the ears of CUPE Local 9 members.

The City of Moose Jaw attempted to remove 18 such employees as part of contract talks last summer, and CUPE Local 9 President Stacey Landin says there hasn't' been much in the way of bargaining since.

"Talks with conciliation broke off late in August and we haven't been back in negotiation since that time," said Landin. "We're just not able to find the common ground at this point that we're looking to do."

The City attempted the move several months ago as part of a contract battle that started in 2014.

Landin says this is a positive step forward for the employees in the union, who continue to work without a contract.

"(I'm) just very pleased with the decision, I guess the only surprise from it was the speed of the decision. We're pleased with that and the outcome is great and hopefully this quickly flows into more good things for workers across our province."

She said she's unclear what the future holds in light of the ruling and is waiting "for the dust to settle".

The City has yet to comment on the ruling.
