With the retirement of long time city clerk/solicitor Myron Gulka-Tiechko, the Moose Jaw City Hall will be restructuring the department to make it more efficient.

The city clerk/solicitor’s department will be renamed the Legislative and Enforcement Services Department and the city clerk/solicitor will become the city solicitor/director of legislative and enforcement services.

With that, there will be a new position created for a dedicated city clerk.

“That office is there to serve the community and we want to make sure that it's being used effectively. There's some recommendations that are coming forward and things that we're going to be looking at in the budget process,” said Mayor Fraser Tolmie.

With the department renamed, it will continue to look after city council business, litigation, document management, agreements, and lawsuits. However, bylaw enforcement will be transferred over from the planning and development department to the legislative and enforcement services department.

Tolmie said that the hiring process is in the hands of city administration.

“That's really going to be up to the city manager. We've got one employee, but we do rely on having legal representation as a council as well,” he said.

The plan behind the restructuring is that the planning and development services department to focus solely on growing the community.
